4-Day Sasa-Sipi Trail

The 4 day trek is known as a loop hike and is a flexible trek. The trekking experience starts from Budadiri-Sasa Trail Head and ends at Sipi Trailhead. During this trek, you will encounter the magnificence landscape viewing, 3 Elgon peaks i.e. Jackson peak, Mt Mubiyi and Wagagai Peak. Not forgetting plants such as Giant Lobelia, walking through primary and secondary forest. You will spot some primates too.

 

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Budadiri Gate for registration, briefing, meet the ranger guides, porters, and the cook. You will then board boda bodas (motorcycle taxi) to the starting point in Bumasola Village. You will hike through the wall of life, skipping the Sasa Camp, Sasa Patrol Camp and traverse to Mude Camp at Elevation of 3500M asl for our first night. This hike takes approximately 6-7 hours depending on how you find it, and your strength level.

 

Day 2: Early in the morning after breakfast, you will embark on a hike to the summit, passing through Jackson Pool, Jackson Peak and a view of Jackson table. The views here are stunning. You will then Proceed to the Wagagai Peak, walking along the Caldera rim. It’s 9km going to the peak and 9km returning – a total of 18km. After touring, you will descend down to your base camp for the 2rd night.

 

Day 3: Early morning breakfast, embark on a hike of about 37km from Mude Camp to Tutum Cave for the 3rd night. It’s a long distance hike of around 7-8hours.

 

Day 4: After early morning breakfast, you will set off from Tutum Cave to Kapkwai Exploration Center which is the Sipi trailhead. It’s approximately 4 hours walk covering 11km. It’s at Kapkwai where the boda bodas will transport you to your guesthouse or Sipi Village. This marks the end of your 4 days mountain experience.
